Upcoming Implantable Defibrillator Support Group 31st July 11-1pm

You are invited to attend the St Vincent's Hospital ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) information session.

The aim of the session is to provide support and education for all ICD recipients and their families and friends.

It is also an opportunity to meet others with ICDs and share experiences.

DATE/TIME: Tuesday 31st July 11:00am - 1pm

VENUE: Level 4 Function Room St Vincent's Clinic

TOPIC: "And remember to breathe!"- Building confidence with my ICD

An ICD can seem like one of those good news, bad news scenarios. The good news is that it's a really clever device that is with you 24 hours a day to keep your heart working as it should. So what is the bad news?? For some, living with the fear of a shock, or having had a shock can be really, really hard work.

We will explore the psychology that goes along with an ICD, to understand how an ICD may be a trigger for fear and anxiety for some, and a sign of hope and protection for others. We will look at how to manage unhelpful worries, the "what ifs", that might be on your mind, and especially how meditation can help. We will also tale about how to rebuild confidence in doing day to day activities that matter to us, without a sense of walking on egg shells.
